CRIDLAND: Murray Charles

MonteCridlandCRIDLAND: Murray Charles – passed away on September 14, 2014, peacefully in the early evening at Evergreen Lane, Norview Long Term Care Home, with a gentle smile for the nurses who were attending to his care needs. Few people have touched so many lives as Murray did, in his modest way, with a unique interest in others, while always maintaining a sense of humour. He could always find time for a tune on the harmonica and to play practical jokes on unsuspecting victims.

Murray Charles Cridland was born on the family homestead on April 21st, 1917, son of the late Ray and Jenny Cridland. The family farm and farming was his focus and passion, as well as his love for his late wife Lula (May 13, 1987) and Edith (September 20, 2007) Murray was a wonderful father to his children Myrna Jeanne, son-in-law David Mason, Toronto and the late Monte Cridland (April 9, 2014). Murray leaves his sister Laurel (Toronto), grandchildren Sean and Daniel Mason, Bill, Bob and Shari Cridland, great grandchildren Kyle and Emily Mason, Justin, Courtney, Kate, Chloe and Emma Jean Cridland, as well as many nieces and nephews from the Hamilton and Watson families. Many thanks to Joan Bennett and her family who helped us make our dad’s quality of life the best.

A true farmer extraordinaire to the end, Murray never ceased to be interested in all aspects of the business. This devotion stems from a long lineage of famers dating back to the 15th century in the Somerset area of England, with emigration to Canada in the 1800’s. The calling continued with his son and now his grandsons who are looking after the family farm.

Relatives and friends may call at the Jeffrey W. Glendinning Funeral Home, 36 Front Street, Port Rowan on Wednesday September 17, 2014 from 11:30 until 12:30pm followed by the funeral service in the Clark Chapel at 1:00pm. Interment to follow in Bayview Cemetery, Port Rowan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Murray’s memory can be made to the Norview Long Term Care Home to fund special education opportunities for staff.
